Preface
This Instructor’s Manual with Test Bank is intended for use with Abnormal Child Psychology, Fifth Edition, by Eric Mash and David Wolfe. It was designed to provide instructors with a summary of the material from the chapters, important terms for the students to know, InfoTrac key words and exercises, suggested test questions, possible topics for class discussion, and related website and video suggestions. The chapters of the manual correspond to the chapters of the text.
Chapter Outlines:
For each chapter of the text, a detailed outline of the key concepts covered in the chapter is provided.
Key Terms and Concepts:
At the end of the chapter outline, the key terms and concepts for the chapter are listed. These are the terms that have also been highlighted in the text.
Test Items:
Sixty multiple-choice questions are provided for each chapter. Listed below each test item is the correct answer to the question, the corresponding page number from the text book, the question’s level of difficulty, and the type of test question that it is. Please consider that the level of difficulty will have to be adjusted for each class, as instructors may vary in what aspects of the materials they choose to emphasize. Also, test questions can be used as a base to expand upon, and/or can be made more challenging by applying the information to clinical issues and scenarios.
Short Answer/Essay Questions:
Approximately 15-20 short answer/essay questions are provided for each chapter. Page numbers are not listed for these questions, as they frequently require students to integrate material from different parts of the chapter.
Questions and Issues for Discussion:
For each chapter there are 10-15 questions that contain possible topics for classroom discussion. These topics were selected because they may be of particular interest to students, and in many cases are likely to stimulate some interesting discussion. For some topics we have also suggested relevant additional readings, many of which can be found on InfoTrac. Some topics for discussion have been adapted from Christopher A. Kearney’s Casebook in Child Behavior Disorders. (The casebook is available through Brooks/Cole and Wadsworth Publishing.)
Recommended Websites:
The websites listed at the end of each chapter of the manual have been compiled after many hours of “surfing the web.” Although there are many wonderful sites on the Internet, the ones that have been listed may be of particular interest to students using the text. At the time that this manual was printed, all of the sites were operable.
Video Suggestions:
A number of relevant films and videos are suggested for each chapter. Most of the films are relatively short (less than an hour), and would hopefully provide time for class discussion. Unfortunately, not all of the films were previously viewed, so it is recommended that instructors preview the films prior to showing them to their classes. Whenever possible, a description of the film has been provided, as well as, the date of production, the length, the name of the producer, and the purchase and/or rental costs. Contact information for many of the production companies and distributors can be found in the appendix. Please note that the video suggestions were not updated from the third edition for this edition of the Instructor’s Manual with Test Bank.
Appendix:
Included in the appendix are example course outlines, suggested lecture outlines for 10-week courses, and a directory of videos. Please note that the appendix was not updated from the third edition for this edition of the Instructor’s Manual with Test Bank.
Acknowledgement
I would like to thank Marjorie Hardy, Kathryn Hildyard, Andrea N. Welder, and Hani Baumgarten all who worked extensively on previous editions of the Instructor’s Manual and Test Bank, and who provided a strong and thorough foundation for the update of this edition’s manual.
